Synopsis · THE PLAQUE
Every January 1st, one hundred people of any age, from a three-week-old girl to a seventy-nine-year-old man, receive a letter: one million dollars a year for ten years, in exchange for living in Miralagos, a dead mining town on Florida's Gulf coast. No one can apply. No one knows who pays. And the seventh clause, the one that says what happens on day 3,653, is sealed in an envelope in the town hall basement. This year the tenth cohort arrives. And the first, which has spent ten years crossing off a calendar, is 365 days from finding out what it deserves. Among them: a waitress who serves soup to millionaires and sees what they don't, a lawyer managing her newborn daughter's fortune, a mechanic from Hialeah who never had more than two thousand dollars at once, and an old man who was in Miralagos before and knows what the town is dying of. When the mine's accountant turns up at the bottom of the pit with the Foundation's seal in his pocket, the countdown begins.
Author biography
Nicholas Noor is the pen name of an author who gives no interviews with a face. He lives in Florida. LA DÉCIMA, a saga of ten thriller novels about ten social experiments, is his first published work. He publishes with Décima Press.

- What is LA DÉCIMA?
- Ten experiments on people. Ten "what if" questions everyone has asked at some point and no one could answer because no one had the money to test them. The Foundation does.
- Why a town in Florida?
- Because Florida is where the United States and Latin America talk at the same table. Miralagos is a town that is not on the map and that both sides recognize.
- What does the Balance measure?
- Everyone thinks it measures the money. That is the book's first trap.
